Highlights of the Trip

Trip Name: Dhaulagiri Trekking French Pass Trip starts- ends: Kathmandu - KTM

Duration: 21 Days 20 Nights Destination: Western Region, Nepal

detailed description

West of massif Annapurna is the 40-mile-wide Dhaulagiri Range. Dhaulagiri I 8156 m. , the sixth-tallest peak in the world, towers high above the well-trekked Muktinath pilgrim trail up the Kali Gandaki Valley. The vast massif screens the hidden lands of Dolpo to its north, and to the west of it are Nepal's far western hills. Only to the east along the Kali Gandaki Valley can we easily view the mountain close up, so massive Dhaulagiri with its symmetrical peak and four major outliners remains an enigma along much of its perimeter. Like fabled but restricted Dolpo, the complete month-long trek around Dhaulagiri is only for a handful of hikers. This is because much of the route traverses difficult, remote country.

Trekking in this region means an exploration of the wild. Recently reopened this thrilling region shows its long kept secrets, like the Gandaki Gorge, the deepest Gorge in the world !! Dhaulagiri means "white mountain" though many mountains over the world have names which translate to white mountain, this is without doubt the most astonishing one.

Major Attractions: Massif Dhaulagiri and its Base Camp / Italian Camp / Hidden Valley and the beautiful landscapes. Poonhill and Ghorepani is yet worthy though it is small and less adventurous after the Dhaulagiri round.
