Upper Mustang trek FAQs

01How my Character needs to be, is this trek for me?

• Annapurna base camp trek suits for people who are fit, no need to be experienced. It will be good if you are concerned on your physical fitness like running, swimming, hiking. We in fact recommend to embark these exercises for your journey.
• If you are suffering from kind of any medical condition, we suggest you to seek medical advice from your doctors before coming to trek.
• Trekking is not an easy task, so you need to be aware regarding the discomfort before being adapted in the regions.
• It is better you prepare for trekking for at least 2/3 months before you depart, an aerobic exercise would be pretty much good and needs to follow 3/4 times per week as a minimum requirement.

02What is the procedure of airport pickup, will someone come there for me on my arrival?

• The procedure of airport pickup is that we will send one of our representative to pick you up. He will stand there holding the sign of Trailblazer Tours and Treks outside the terminal, he will greet you and transfer you to your respected hotel in our private vehicle.

03How can I get visa for Nepal? Is it upon on arrival at the airport?

• Yes, the visa is on arrival and it is easy to get at Tribhuwan International Airport in Kathmandu. And the visa differs accordingly on the basis of your stay in Nepal. The more you stay you need to pay more, but you will get Tourist Visa with Multiple Entries. As US $ 25 for 15 days, and for 30 days you need to pay

04Do I need any extra documents?

• It’s hassle free, as you just need to bring a copy of your travel insurance, your passport with 3 (passport sizes) photos while coming for trip to Nepal. The photos are needed for permits.

05What kind of facilities will be there in Kathmandu, Pokhara and within Trekking?

• Our motto is to give perfect service to our customers, for that reason we do not compromise with the standard. We will transfer you to standard rooms at three-star hotels in Kathmandu and Pokhara as per our commitment.
• We are much concerned with the health of our customers, so during the trek along teahouses, guesthouses we provide clean rooms, with basic facilities.
• We can also provide our own sleeping bags but it is the best idea to have your own during trekking.
• The lodges within the treks normally provides single and double room. If possible, there will be dining around a bon fire. The toilet in teahouses are full with crucial and basic facilities.

06As the weather is cold, do guesthouses heated or have air-conditioning facilities?

• As the weather is cold but the guest houses do not facilitate with air-conditioners or heaters. However, when it gets colder above 3500m, they have the minimal facility to hit the dining room by using kerosene or metal heater. To use this facility, you have to spend some dollars.

07Can I please know about the toilet facilities along the trail?

There are toilet facilities in teahouse/guesthouse but apart from that while on trek and in emergency case you find some secluded place and go for toilet.

08I have heard about foods not being that hygienic, can you please clarify this? What kind of food can we expect during our journey?

• Yes, there is rumor but it is better to visit and experience on your own. We are much concerned with the hygiene and the cook in most teahouses/lodges in Annapurna Base Camp trail are experienced in cooking a delicious range of food items.
• You can enjoy the varieties of food ranging from pasta, potatoes, lentils, soups, fresh vegetables, eggs and many more. They will even serve you tasty dessert. There will the non-vegetarian items too, you even enjoy with chocolates, hot drinks, soft drinks, and chips.

09How is the drinking water facility in the trekking zones?

• There isn’t any problem for bottled water as it is easily available at guesthouse and lodges. But Yesh above Chhomorng you need to take purified water as plastic bottles are banned by Annapurna conservation area.
• If you have plan to drink normal water you must bring some kind of purifying drops or any kind of purifier with you.

Upper Mustang Trek Itinerary

Day 1Day of Arrival in Kathmandu

Today right after you land at Tribhuwan International Airport one of the representatives from our company Trailblazer Travel and Tours will transfer you to your respected hotel. After then you will refresh yourself and take rest. There will be welcome dinner in one of the genuine Nepalese restaurants with Nepalese cuisine in the evening. Night stay at Kathmandu

Day 2Sightseeing and Initial prep for Trek

Today, we will be touring around the principal tourist destination of Kathmandu and nearby. We will visit World Heritage Sites like Kathmandu Durbar Square, Pashupatinath, Swayambhunath and Bouddha stupas, Patan Durbar Square, and Bhaktapur Durbar Square. In the afternoon we will visit Thamel and within Thamel we will too visit Trailblazer travel and Tours office and introduces ourselves and have some discussion regarding the trek. Overnight stay at hotel in Kathmandu.

Day 3Drive(Flight) to Pokhara from Kathmandu

Early morning after having our breakfast we initiate our journey to Pokhara, the city of Lakes. Along the trip, we will have chance to view the greenery views with the big rivers flowing by the roadside. After reaching Pokhara we will check-in to our respected hotel and have some rest. After then we will enjoy being around Fewa Lake and you can even boat over there, a short walk around the streets of Pokhara. Night stay in Pokhara.

Day 4Fly to Jomsom and trek to Kagbeni: (2,858m/9,375ft) 3-4 hrs

After having breakfast, we will fly to Jomsom from Pokhara which is renowned for the strong winds, apples and the breath-taking landscapes. Jomsom is a large town, which is also a headquarter of the Mustang region, and also a major hub within Kaligandaki area linking the age old Trans-Himalayan Salt Trade route to Tibet. Our trek starts from Jomsom that continues gradually on the Kali Gandaki river bed for about 3-4 hours taking us to at Ekley-bhatti village. After taking rest over there we follow along the trail and reaches to Kagbeni(2,858m/9,375ft), lying at the bank of two rivers. Kagbeni is beautiful as well as stimulating village that lies at the centre of the age-old Trans-Himalayan salt trade route to Tibet via Upper Mustang area. You can stroll at noon over here and Night stays at Kagbeni.

Day 5Trek from Kagbeni to Chele (3,050m/10,004ft): 5-6 hours

Our journey start after getting permit along the trail beside Kali Gandaki river. Throughout our walk while ascending we encounter with the breath-taking scenic landscapes with the sand within strong winds. Our trail leads us to the Tangbe Village, where we will be amazed with its never seen beauty, we appreciate its narrow passages, the picturesque like apple orchards and barley/buckwheat fields as well. The journey continues and moving on we even pass another village and finally takes us to our destination walking on a ridge at Chele village. Overnight in Chele village.

Day 6Trek from Chele to Syanbochen (3,475m/11,398ft): 6-7 hours

Today onwards our trekking gets much tougher than before. Throughout our way we come across two passes, Taklam La Pass(3,624m) and Dajori La pass (3,735). We will be mesmerizing with the views of Tilicho Peak, Yakawa Kang, Damodar Danda, and Nilgiri on our way. We further descends leads us to the Samar village where we will have our lunch. From here we walk on a trail above the village and reach a ridge. Further ascending along the trail will leads us to Syanboche. Our Overnight stay is in Syanboche.

Day 07Trek from Syanbochen to Ghami (3,520m/11,546ft): 5-6 hours’ walk

After having breakfast, today we hike up to the Yamda La pass(3,850m), passing few teahouses, chortens and the beautiful villages resembling the Tibetan style of houses. Our trekking moves through the poplar forests and barley fields taking us to Nyi Pass at 4,010m for lunch. Our trail descends to Ghami for an overnight stay, which among the biggest villages in the Lo region.

Day 08Trekking from Ghami to Tsarang (3,620m/11,873ft): 5-6 hours’ walk

We proceed our trek after having breakfast enjoying the pleasing walk. We descend along the rough and slippery trail. As the trail goes by we come to cross over the suspension of Ghami Khola, and right from here our ascending begins. The way will grab our attention having beautiful walls. And finally we pass the Tsarang La Pass (3870m) and be within our destination at Tsarang village, which lies at the highest point. Our Overnight stay is in Tsarang.

Day 09Trek fromTsarang to Lo-Manthang (3,730m/12,234ft): 3-4 hours

Today we start our trek moving down, crossing the river before ascending to Lo La Pass lying at 3950m. During our trek towards Lo-Manthang, we will have numerous choices to explore the nearby areas, we can visit Namgyal Gompa and Tingkhar. Namgyal Gompa lies at the top, and it is also considered as an important monastery within the local community and it also serves as a local court. You can have a tour to explore Tingkhar, the beautiful village consisting of around 40 houses lying at the northwest of Lo-Mangthang. Being at the top of the pass we can have the panoramic view around. We descend and overnight stay at Lo-Manthang village.

Day 10Exploring Lo Manthang as well as Acclimatization

Lo Manthang is a beautiful village that us even known as a fenced town lying at the distantplace of the Upper Mustang area. Here are many places you can enjoy strolling around. As today we are staying here at Lo-Manthang to explore the region and to acclimatize our self for our upcoming trek. During our stay, we sightsee the main Gompas of this region: Jhampa, Thupchen and Chhoeda. These all gompas are much celebrated within these regions and also have gone restoration because of their architecture. Overnight stay in Lo Manthang.

Day 11Trek to Drakmar from Lo- Manthang (3810 m/12,500ft): 6-7 hours

Today we will take a different way returning from Lo-Manthang. This time our way passes through Gyakar village, which is known for centuries old Ghar Gompa with beautiful rock painting embedded within. There is a mythological belief that if anyone who would wish at the Gompa their wish will be fulfilled. So this Gompa is much celebrated among the residents. Rest, we will spend exploring Gompa and move forward within our trek to Drakmar. Our night stay will be at Drakmar.

Day 12Trek from Drakmar to Ghiling (3,806m/12,484ft): 5-6 hours

Today our trek starts early to evade strong winds, mostly we descend in our today’s trek. Before stepping into Ghiling we walk through the trail where we come across with the dry rugged plateau and the fields. As we are going to face strong winds blowing so our trek will be pretty tough than the previous one. Walking towards Ghiling will let us to view the breath-taking views of Dhaulagiri and Nilgiri mountains though the trek is much parched than our earlier one. In the evening you have time to stroll round the village and explore it. Our overnight will be in Ghiling.

Day 13Trek to Chhuksang from Ghiling (3050m/10,004ft): 5-6 hours

Today after having breakfast we continue our trek, we move along the trail we had walked earlier before moving up to Lo Manthang. Trailing along the way to Chhuksang we get chance see the breath-taking views of the snow-capped Himalayas and the beautiful villages. Our night stays in Chhuksang.

Day 14Trek to Jomsom (2,700/8,856ft): 6-7 hours

Finally,we are in the verge of completing our expedition today and it is a hectic one. We will walk along the trail and after some time we join the trails of Annapurna circuit ending Mustang trail. Kagbeni is our resting venue for our lunch, and we proceed with our trek after lunch to Jomsom for our overnight there.

Day 15Fly back to Pokhara

It’s a pleasing morning, right after our breakfast we check in the airport to fly back to Pokhara. We will enjoy our flight that goes between gorge of the two huge snow-capped mountains the Annapurna and the Dhaulagiri. Finally, on our arrival at Pokhara airport, one of our representative will transfer you to the hotel. And now you do have time to explore the lakeside and the streets of Pokhara. Overnight stay at the hotel.

Day 16Drive back to Kathmandu

Today after having our early morning breakfast, we bid farewell to Pokhara and drive back to Kathmandu. We travel along the river bank of Trishuli, enjoying the stunning views of the hills, typical Nepalese houses, and Nepalese lifestyle. After spending 6-7 hours we reach to Kathmandu, where we will take rest and have some souvenir shopping. In the evening we will have farewell dinner to cheers our adventurous journey throughout. Night stay in Kathmandu.

Day 17Concluding Day of departure

Finally, the day has come to an end. We had lots of memorable experiences throughout our journey to Upper Mustang Trek. Today, one of the representatives from Trailblazer Travel and Tours will come to take you at Tribhuwan International Airport.
